Here is another one of our “Why I Carry” stories. These stories, unlike our defensive gun uses, take a look at situations that may have turned out very differently if the victim(s) had been armed. These stories also serve as an important reminder as to why it’s important to carry everyday.

The series of articles where we highlight stories that could have turned out differently is called “Why I Carry”. However, in this case, it should probably be called “Why I Keep a Gun on My Nightstand”.

In this case, a 57 year old woman in Jacksonville, Florida was shot multiple times as she slept in her bed by two armed home invaders according to First Coast News.

Details are a little hazy at this point, but we do know that the woman managed to make her way out of the home and to a neighbor’s doorstep seeking help.

The neighbor called local authorities. The victims is expected to survive her injuries which are currently described as non-life threatening.

There is currently no description of the suspects available.

An alarm and stronger locks could have given the woman a little bit of warning about the impending home invasion (neither of these options will stop determined criminals) and a gun would have given her the ability to respond with equal force.

As I say with all of these stories, a gun in the hands of the victim may or may not have changed the outcome of the incident, but I’ll always take a fighting chance over begging for my life.
