stock revolverDon’t bring a… garden tool to a gun fight? Apparently that’s the lesson a would be home invader is learning this week.

Around 7:30am a woman in her late 40’s called police to report an intruder in her home around 7:30am.

The woman tried to escape from the intruder, but according to police, the suspect attacked her with what is being described as a garden tool.

Fortunately, the woman was armed and managed to open fire on her attacker. She hit him, effectively ending the attack.

The woman, who is a recent widow, was being treated for minor injuries and was shaken up over the incident.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive his injuries.

According to Fox Phoenix, police say the woman was completely within her rights,

Police say the suspect knocked on the front and side doors before breaking in through the back door that what happened could have ended a lot worse.

“I would say that anytime someone is in your house, they’ve assaulted you, broken into your house, and assaulted you, you would say she appears to have been in the right at this point,” said Phoenix Police spokesperson Tommy Thompson.
