A woman in Colorado Springs, Colorado had to use deadly force to defend herself from a home invader on Sunday night.

A man broke into the woman’s rented home. She gave a verbal warning and fired a warning shot. However, the intruder kept coming. That’s when the woman took aim and pulled the trigger.

After the woman shot the suspect, he fled to a nearby parking lot where he collapsed. Responding police officers found him in the parking lot and transported him to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The victim’s landlord said she is glad her tenant was able to defend herself. According to KKTV:

“He was climbing into the window and so she had to defend herself,” explained [Linda] Orist.

She says the woman was jolted awake when she heard someone trying to kick in the back door. But the intruder couldn’t get in that way, so he reportedly went around the side of the house. Orist says she was told by the tenant, that the burglar then shattered a window with a rock and started coming in.

“She came into the room and she said, I’m armed and leave and she fired a warning shot into the side of the room.”

“It’s unnerving. I’m just very proud, very thankful she was able to defend herself because it could’ve been totally different,” said Orist.

This is the 15th defensive gun use we’ve documented and the 1,336th defensive gun use we’ve documented.
