The Athens Messenger is reporting that a 68 year old woman in Athens, OH went outside around 8:00pm to investigate why her dogs were barking. The woman was in her front driveway when she was hit from behind and knocked down by a man wearing a ski mask.

The man then began to kick the woman while she was down. Fortunately the homeowner was armed and drew a .22 caliber derringer from her pocket and fired 2 shots at the attacker. The assailant then fled the scene.

Police say the man was wearing a ski mask and was about 6 feet tall, but have no other details on his appearance.
