A 63 year old Michigan man, with stage 4 lymphoma (currently in remission) kept his nerves steady when two young men broke into his home around noon.

The homeowner heard the pair breaking in and grabbed his shotgun. He met them at the top of the second story stairs and held them at gunpoint until police arrived.

“I really tried to be as forceful as possible,” Smith said. “I didn’t want them to get me into a conversation. You can’t let them get too close to where they can grab the gun.”

It appears the homeowner and his wife knew one of the would be burglars and had tried to help him out periodically over the years.

Both suspects are being held on felony charges.
