Stock - gun in handThis is certainly an extraordinary story, even based on the limited facts we currently have about it (we’re working on getting more).

It appears that a woman in Campbell County, Wyoming was attacked early on Wednesday morning by a man, identified as Sammy Michael Fears, age 48, she had a long history of domestic violence with.

According to The Gillette News Record (subscription required) , Fears actually tried to abduct the woman from her home.

However, when police arrived on the scene, they didn’t find a crime scene of a kidnapping. The found Fears in the driveway, suffering from a gunshot wound.

A 15 year boy had, at some point during the altercation, shot Fears. According to reports, the boy does not have a relationship with either the victim or Fears, so it’s currently unclear where he came from and police are not releasing extended details about him due to his age.

Due to his age the boy’s identity has not been released, but police say he has not been charged with any crime.

Fears died of his injuries on the way to the hospital in an ambulance.

This is only the 3rd defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Wyoming and the 1,075th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
