AR15 (1)

Yesterday we saw that NBC News was reporting that the suspected Navy shooter was armed only with a shotgun when he entered the Navy yard and may have gained access to a handgun and possibly an AR-15 along the way.

Now we have even more reports, some saying that an AR-15 wasn’t used AT ALL.

UPDATE: At their afternoon press conference today, the FBI announced they have no reason to believe an AR-15 was used in the Navy Shipyard shooting.

CNN’s Pamela Brown reports the following,

We also still have NBC reporting that the shooter stole all of his weapons except the shotgun,

When it was over, the suspected gunman lay dead amid an armload of weapons. Sources told News4 that surveillance footage showed that he began his attack with a shotgun, but was found with a 9mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle.

NBC News correspondent Pete Williams is reporting Alexis purchased a shotgun in Lorton, Va. during the past week or so.

The suspected gunman appeared to have seized firearms from two of his victims as he moved through the building along the Anacostia River in southeast Washington, where 3,000 Navy employees go to work each day, many of them carrying authorized firearms.

ABC News is reporting similar information from their sources,

Sources tell ABC News that Alexis, 34, recently bought a shotgun used in the attack at a Lorton, Va., gun store and that he may have gotten other weapons, including an assault rifle at the scene. As of now, there is no evidence of terrorism and the FBI believes he acted alone when he opened fired Monday.

CBS News just tweeted the following,

USA Today also just joined the chorus of news agencies retracting their statements from yesterday,

CNN even woefully admits the following,

However, federal law enforcement sources told CNN Tuesday that authorities have recovered three weapons from the scene of the mass shooting, including one — a shotgun — that investigators believe Alexis brought in to the compound. The other two weapons, which sources say were handguns, may have been taken from guards at the Navy complex.

Although, that didn’t stop CNN from still writing a multiple paragraph editorial about how bad the AR-15 is in that same article, even though it wasn’t used here.

If the above facts turn out to be true, there is virtually no gun control law which would have prevented this. Even in the most highly regulated countries for gun ownership, shotguns are still allowed to be owned by private citizens.

Even if Dianne Feinstein passed her extremely strict semi-auto weapon ban in April, it wouldn’t have stopped this incident in any way.
