MESA, AZ – One person is in extremely critical condition and at least three others are injured after shootings at multiple locations in Mesa this morning.
Mesa Det. Esteban Flores said police received a shooting call around 8:30 a.m. near Alma School and Main Street, then began receiving multiple additional calls for shootings in the surrounding area.
At least four people have been shot, and the suspect is still on the loose, Flores said.
Police are reportedly investigating at least five to six different scenes, all believed to be connected to the same shooter. Flores said a motive in the shooting is unknown, but at this time the incidents appear to be random.
A man who was shot at The Bistro restaurant was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The conditions of the remaining victims is unclear at this time.
Flores said officials are working to determine how many victims have been shot. A Mesa Fire spokesperson earlier told ABC15 additional patients were being treated at the different shooting locations.
Tactical units, including a SWAT team, are on scene assisting in the search for the suspect who is described as a white male in his 40s, bald, who was last seen wearing a gray shirt and black pants or shorts. The suspect reportedly has a visible tattoo on his neck.
Police are warning anyone in the area to stay indoors, but call 911 if they see the suspect.
Aerial footage just before 9:30 a.m. showed armed officers in the neighborhood apparently searching for the suspect. Medics could also be seen treating an injured man.
Westbound Main Street has been closed from Alma School to Dobson as police continue to investigate.
School officials said the East Valley Institute of Technology and Mesa Community College’s Southern and Dobson campus have been put on lockdown as a precaution.
