Wow. Seriously? Who thought this would be a good idea.

A school in Oregon apparently thought that it would be a beneficial exercise to stage a mock mass shooting, complete with a mock gunman using a blank firing gun with blanks.

Students were off from school on the day the drill was ran and it was targeted (literally and metaphorically) at teachers.

According to CBS Seattle:

The Oregonian reports Pine Eagle Charter School in Halfway held the drill last Friday as children were home for an in-service day. Two masked “gunmen” burst into a meeting room holding 15 teachers firing blanks. Teachers only realized it wasn’t a real shooting when none of them were bleeding.

I wonder how this would have played out if one of the teachers involved had decided to take their personal safety seriously and ignore current carry laws.

One good thing that might come out of this is allowing school officials to carry concealed weapons.

From CBS:

DeCastro added that arming teachers or having armed volunteers at the school are possible outcomes for the future.

FYI, blanks are not completely harmless. Notably, Bruce Lee’s son, Brandon Lee, was killed by a blank firing gun.
