A physical education teacher in Kansas has been arrested following a report by another teacher, that he brought a gun to school with him. Family members of Daniel Nagel, the teacher, say they Nagel was only trying to make sure children were protected.

Nagel has a valid carry permit in Kansas which allows him to carry in most public places, however Kansas has not yet passed any laws allowing teachers, even those with a carry permit to carry on campus. It should be noted that many states have, or are, passing laws to allow teachers with carry permits to carry on school grounds.

Nagel is on paid administrative leave while officials investigate the incident.

In a video interview with KWCH, at least one parent says she supports Nagel’s actions and think teachers should be allowed to be armed in order to protect children.

According to KAKE,

Nagel faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm. A first time penalty for that offense would be a fine of $50.

A police spokesman said today that even if Nagel had a permit to carry a concealed firearm, it’s still illegal to carry the gun into a school building.
