UPDATE: The owner of the pub talked to the Washington Times about the backlash following the posting of the sign in question. From the Washington Times,
Pete told The Washington Times that he’s a big supporter of gun rights and has had a concealed weapons permit since 2001, but doesn’t feel guns have any place in a college town.
“There are cops everywhere. Cameras everywhere. Guns have no place here in a college town,” he said.
As far as the sign, which was apparently only temporary, Pete said he regretted the language he used.
I’m sorry I used that language,” he told the Times. “It just came out wrong because I was frustrated.”
ORIGINAL STORY: This can’t be considered sound business practices. If you want to prohibit something on your private property, go ahead, it’s your property. However, you probably don’t want to offend an estimated 100 million Americans in the process.
The Backstreets Pub in Clemson South Carolina apparently posted the sign pictured above outside of their establishment.
If you can’t view the image for some reason, it reads NO CONCEALED WEAPONS ALLOWED and in smaller type, IF YOU ARE SUCH A LOSER THAT YOU FEEL A NEED TO CARRY A GUN WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO OUT, I DO NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS. DOUCHEBAG.
The feedback from the gun community has been quick and harsh.
The restaurant’s rating on Yelp quickly dropped to a 1 star rating, and it seems the pub removed their Facebook page after a barrage of negative reviews and criticism were posted there.
Some of the reviews posted to Yelp (these will likely be removed at some point by Yelp),
This places seems to prefer to cater to criminals. Leaving citizens unable to protect themselves doesn’t make you safer. Quite the opposite, it makes for a target rich environment.
Very sad you’ve made the choice to be insulting to potential customers. Happy you’re passionate about your political beliefs, we live in a great country where you can have your opinion, and I can have mine.
You’ve expressed yours, and I will express mine with my wallet.
As mentioned, the pub has pulled their Facebook page, but before they did they doubled down on their insults to gun owners.
