Hmmm. This one is very, very weird, and it stinks.

According to a report on WMBF, a loaded 9mm handgun (a Hi-Point C9 to be exact), was found placed in an opened box in the toy aisle of a South Carolina Target store.

I’m not usually one to give conspiracy theories any credence, but in this case it seems absolutely clear that someone put that gun there with the intention of a child finding it.

A couple of facts about the case point to it being a plant either by an insane person who wants to harm children or an anti-gun activist.

1) The gun put there, a Hi-Point C9 is one of the lowest cost 9mm handguns available on the market. If someone was going to leave a handgun laying about with minimal investment on their part, this would be the gun to use.

2) A Target employee observed a man acting weird in the aisle prior to the gun being found. Further pointing out this might have been a plant.

3) Target has recently become the latest nation business to become targeted by Moms Demand Action after an open carry demonstration at a Target store in Texas back in March.

4) What group would have the most to gain from the negative publicity of this incident?

According to the WMBF article,

The fact that it was found in an aisle geared toward children makes some shoppers feel this was no accident.

“I don’t think someone would accidentally drop off a gun. I think he purposely left it there for a child to pick up and think, ‘Oh it’s a toy gun,’ and accidentally point it at somebody and it goes off,” says Kennedy McClain.

According to a BuzzFeed article on the same topic,

CJ Grisham, President of Open Carry Texas, the group responsible for the demonstration at the Target store last week, wrote BuzzFeed saying, “I wouldn’t doubt if a gun control extremist planted the gun there to further his agenda of blaming gun owners for deaths of children. Whoever did it is a despicable excuse for a human being and should be charged with attempted murder and fried in in a chair.”

Whoever did this and for whatever reason I hope they’re charged to the fullest extent of the law.
