It looks like South Carolina’s concealed carry reform bill will be signed into law by Governor Nikki Haley tomorrow morning at 10:30am.
The governor posted the following to her Facebook page and it quickly gathered over 500 comments on people debating the law.
The new law will allow people with a carry permit to carry their firearm into bars and restaurants where alcohol is served, but carriers cannot legally drink while carrying.
Many people are of course arguing that there will be epic, bloody gunfights at the Applebee’s Bar, however SC is one of only a few states that DOES NOT currently allow carry permit holders to carry into alcohol serving establishments. Many states even allow carriers to drink while carrying (some place restrictions on BAC while others do not).
Those states do not have problems with legal carriers getting drunk and using their legally carried firearms inappropriately.
Bottom line, it’s a step in the right direction for South Carolina.
Now, if we can just work on getting that whole reciprocity with Georgia thing worked out…
