According to Politico, Senators will take up the proposal from Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) to expand background checks on firearm purchases and close the so-called gun show loophole. The bipartisan plan is likely the strongest gun control bill that can pass this Congress, although it’s far weaker than the White House and many Democrats hoped for.

Voting on the Manchin-Toomey propsal is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., and both opponents and supporters say the margin is razor thin at this point.

Now is the time to call your Senators and let them know that you don’t support any new gun legislation.

I know there has been some talk about the positives in this bill. However, it was so hastily written, and there is are so many conflicting analyses out there on how this will affect gun rights that we just need to let this one die.

Making sure this bill dies in the Senate is not only a good thing because it will get rid of this bill, but it will send the message that our gun rights are extremely important to the American people. If the bill made it to the House and died there the Democrats would just say, “Well the evil Republicans killed it.”

However, if it dies in the Senate it shows everyone that there is NO real bi-partisan support for gun control.
