It’s not all doom and gloom in the Senate on the gun control front.

Senator Tom Coburn submitted an amendment to a water resources bill yesterday which would have expanded the right to carry among many carry permit holders.

Several years ago a law passed allowing for carry of legal firearms by licensed individuals in national parks, however Army Corps of Engineers owned land was still off limits.

Given the fact that ACE land sometimes overlaps with national park land this created some grey areas for lawful gun carriers.

Senator Coburn’s amendment would have clarified that situation by allowing for carry by legal license holders on ACE land.

The amendment was to be attached to a water resources bill in the Senate.

The amendment had the support of a large majority of senators in a bipartisan show of support for carry rights, but failed to garner the 60 votes needed to pass the amendment process.

The vote failed 56-43.
