BREAKING: House Democrats Move on Federal Gun Control Legislation
Well that really didn’t take long. House Democrats are already moving to attach a gun control amendment to an appropriations bill in the House.
According to POLITICO,
Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said top Democrats are in “discussions” on an amendment but have not decided what the language would say specifically.
He said the amendment would likely be an effort to strike the “prohibition on requiring gun sellers to report on multiple sales on assault-type weapons.”
“That’s going to be discussed,” Hoyer said on Wednesday. An amendment “is possible.”
According to a post on the National Rifle Association Facebook page,
House Democrats are considering attaching an amendment to an appropriations bill that would force stricter background checks for gun purchases. Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said top Democrats are in “discussions” on an amendment but have not decided what the language would say specifically.
The move comes in response to the Isla Vista killing spree in which six victims were killed. Three were stabbed and three were shot. However, there is no mention of the fact that California, where the incident occurred, has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation including universal background checks, waiting periods, and a mental health database.
