According to Fox News the Republican filibuster attempt to stop the gun control bill from coming to the floor has failed.

Senators voted 68-31 to begin debate on the bill.

Republican senators, such as Rand Paul, are likely to use the less invoked “talking filibuster” where a senator can hold the floor during the debate as long as he is talking. Paul recently launched into a 13hr filibuster over the government’s domestic use of drones.

The bill is likely to be amended with a “compromise” deal reached between Senators Toomey (R) and Manchin (D).
