Even Top Democrats Are Criticizing Bloomberg’s Position on Gun Control
Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) is casting the blame on his party’s recent failure to pass any gun control at the federal level on the head of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The mayor is one of the most outspoken anti-gun politicians in the country.
Bloomberg has spent tens of millions of dollars of his vast fortune running ads targeting pro-gun lawmakers and running general, anti-gun propaganda ads.
In a CSPAN interview Leahy said the following,
“Unfortunately, you have some on the left like the mayor of New York City, who actually didn’t help a bit with his ads.”
Leahy, a long-time gun owner, says Bloomberg’s crusade “actually turned off some people that we might have gotten for supporters” of legislation requiring background checks on guns.
“You have some on the far right who say that the Second Amendment allows us to have anything,” he said. “I mean, you can take a machine gun to (go) deer hunting. There needs to be a balance between the two.”
While I’m glad to see someone criticizing Bloomberg, Leahy is also going off base. Saying people use machine guns for deer hunting is the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard.
