Here is another one of our “Why I Carry” stories. These stories, unlike our defensive gun use stories, take a look at situations that may have turned out very differently if the victim(s) had been armed. These stories are the “other side of the coin” so to speak and serve as an important reminder as to why it’s important to take responsibility for your own personal safety.

A couple of parents in Toledo, Ohio found themselves in a situation any new parents would be terrified of – their infant child had been injured in a violent armed robbery.

According to Toledo News Now,

An infant and his parents are in the hospital after an overnight armed robbery at Walbridge and Langdon in south Toledo around 12:30 Monday morning.

Police say the 6-month-old and his parents were pistol-whipped during the robbery.

The family says they were walking to a local gas station when they were approached by two armed robbers in sweatsuits. The suspects took the couple’s cell phones, money and even clothes.

The attackers told the young family that they were “sorry for the robbery, but they had to eat”.

The suspects remain at large. The family was treated for their injuries at an area hospital and are expected to be OK physically, however I cannot imagine the emotional damage of watching your 6 month old child being pistol whipped by a thug.

As always, I have to point out that a firearm may or may not have helped prevent or stop this crime. However, I prefer to have options whenever possible over simply begging for my life.
