Inside the home was a husband, wife, their four children and one of the children’s uncles. Fortunately, the father was quick thinking and quick acting. He drew a gun and opened fire on the suspects, hitting, and killing, two of them. The third suspect fled the scene when the shooting started.

Police have little information about the identity of the third suspect, and are actually not sure if there were only three suspects.

The best eye witness account came from one of the children, a 7 year old boy. According to ABC13,

“I was scared because I thought my dad was going to die,” he said.

Fernando’s eyewitness account of what happened to his family has been helpful to investigators as they piece the scene together.

“My uncle come with the hands up,” he said. “My dad takes his gun out and then he shoots two, then one goes running outside.”

Police took the father in for questioning following the shooting, but they believe this was a clear case of self defense.
