A mother in Alabama was in fear for her life when she found herself face to face with a man dressed in all black who had broken into her home during the middle of the day.
The woman quickly grabbed a pistol from underneath her mattress and pointed it at the intruder, who then fled after the woman told him he needed to go as she kept the weapon aimed at him.
In an odd twist, the suspect returned before police could arrive and left a letter saying he was sorry.
Police arrested one of the woman’s neighbors for the crime and he is facing a felony burglary charge.
Based on the video it appears the woman’s gun is a Hi-Point pistol.
This is another good example of a defensive gun use in which no shots were fired and no one was harmed.

Not sure why the Facebook post leads with the fact that “Even” a inexpensive weapon can thwart a crime ? Muzzle velocity is the same for any gun for a given ammo type used.
what they mean is a Hi-point .380 or 9mm can be bought for $79 brand new on sale, where as a Smith Wesson or Ruger sell for $500-1500 each, I passed my CCW class with a Hi-point – I bought it just based on price alone!
Not entirely true. Muzzle velocity depends on barrel length as well.
Well, it’s because most people advise against people buying a Hi-Point because they’re cheap. The old saying “You get what you pay for” isn’t always true.
Sure, they’re cheap, they’re heavy, and they’re ugly. But if all you can save up is 200 for a gun, then that’s all you can save up for. I would rather she protected herself and her family with a cheap pistol than had a couple hundred bucks saved to buy a higher quality pistol, and gotten robbed, hurt, or killed.
American made with a lifetime warranty no matter how many people owned the firearm before, and brand new around 200 bucks? I call that a win!
My hi-Point has actually never failed me and I have guns as expensive as Kimbers as well. It is a good gun, just butt ugly! The weight is a plus with little kick!
hey hi- point was at the top of the list for mayor dick daley’s gun ban in the beginning ( reason? they were affordable and shortshanks and j-fled didnt want to the poor to able to defend themselves. clinton try to call them a “cheap” saturday night special” i have thought about the rifle because it’s in a pistol cartridge too
I wonder if he would have apologized if she hadn’t had a gun. Funny how the only thing that ever prompts an apology for wrongdoing these days is corporal punishment or the fear of such. Welcome to America, land of accountability and personal responsibility.
EXACTLY – people do not apologize or “regret” what they had done until faced with having been caught and the penalty – (PS how many ‘criminals’ find Jesus when incarcerated)
I often tell my workers that Jesus is a federal prisoner…People always find him there…..
I owned a 45cal. Hi-Point it was all I could afford at the time. It will do the job. If you ever notice they are used in a lot of TV drams as prop guns. I now own a 38 super 15 rd mag. Great gun.
She should’ve shot his ass. At least in the knee.
Hey GlugGlug – how could she have shot his ass by putting a round through his knee? lol I agree with you. Burglar would have been a lot more sorry had she put two in the chest and one in the noggin!
“You got me…you should have shot his ass, at least in the knee… Great I laughed my ass off to the knees.
There nothing wrong with cheap as long as you maintain it and keep it in good working order.
I have a cheap mossberg shotgun and a S&W sigma 40 for home protection. I take them out every once in a while and shot some rounds threw them and clean them on a monthly basis.
Last I check OO buck or a 40cal. does the same damage no matter have expensive the gun is because if you do use it in home defense the cops are taking it for there investagation so would you rather hand over a $2,500 Browning vs a $300 mossbeg or a $300 S&W vs a $600 XD.
I prefer they did take any but they will and I can live with a scratched up mossberg vs a scratched up Browing
The worst part of this story is that he had time to run away, find pen and paper, write an apology, return to the lady’s house and get away again BEFORE the police arrived. But we don’t need to be able to defend ourselves because, as the left will tell you, the police are there to take care of you /sarcasm.
“In an odd twist, the suspect returned before police could arrive and left a letter saying he was sorry.
Police arrested one of the woman’s neighbors for the crime and he is facing a felony burglary charge.”
bizarro land there
Heck it might have misfired..
Man breaks into home.
Woman pulls gun on intruder.
Intruder leaves.
Woman calls cops.
Intruder starts to feel bad.
Intruder writes note.
Intruder comes back and leaves note.
Intruder leaves again.
Cops show up.
I bet she’s glad she pulled a gun instead of a phone!
I’m a combat veteran and a 1911 nut. I’ve owned several Hi-Points myself, and I’m quite fond of them. My duty sidearm and daily carry (when I open carry) is a Hi-Point JHP45, not a 1911. It’s a good, reliable gun, and it’s actually more accurate than most of the 1911s I’ve had over the years. They also handle recoil extremely well because of the size and weight, and excellent design. I’m a part time firearms instructor and I’ve personally taught both children and very petite women to shoot on a JHP45. Despite its size, they all handled it more easily than other guns. It might be inexpensive, but it’s a damn fine weapon made by an all-American outfit with an all-American philosophy.
only thing I can say, is good thing it scared him off instead of taking it from her and using it on her since she pulled it and didn’t fire. That could have turned out way worse. I have said it a million times, don’t pull it out unless you intend to use it! Glad this had a happy ending!
In chiraqastan they wanted to ban those hi- points because they said they were Saturday night specials the real reason was to keep low income people from defending themselves.
Even if it’s cheap and works once it’s worth it
My first semi auto pistol was a 9mm hi-point and it ran like a champ. Very reliable and accurate with just a few FTE with cheap ammo after a couple of hundred rounds fed through. But it is heavy especially for EDC. Still have it but have upgraded to a .45 1911 and 9mm Solo. Love them all. By the way good on her for the presence of mind to defend herself.
I keep my gun loaded and close because when seconds count I don’t want to wait minutes for help to arrive.
i own a high point in .45 cal. i also have several other handguns( sig sauer, glock,s&w,etc.) i have sent 5000 + rounds down range with the high point and never an issue. don’t let the hype, looks, or low cost fool you. it’s a decent firearm that is made right here in the good old U.S.A. WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY. if your tight on cash and need a reliable firearm high point is the way to go and just as deadly as any other firearm out there !
I love my Springfield XDm. I went to buy a Glock, but the guy at the gun store changed my mind. I am not bad mouthing Glocks, but for myself I chose the Springfield. They just seemed sturdier and had a better “feel” in the hand. I liked the .45 so much I went back and got the 9mm a year later. Never shot a Hi-Point myself, but I have seen videos of them jamming frequently. Do your homework before buying any gun and READ THE MANUAL until you understand EVERYTHING about your new weapon. You should be able to disassemble (field strip), clean, and reassemble your weapon before you ever load and fire it. SAFETY FIRST!
