The owner of an Alabama liquor store was restocking beer near closing time when a man armed with a sawed off shotgun burst into the store and held the gun to the owner’s head.
As the owner’s life flashed before his eyes he got mad, and decided to fight back.
The owner drew his own gun and opened fire on the suspect. The suspect immediately tried to flee the store after encountering armed resistance, but the store owner wasn’t letting him get away.
The owner followed the suspect as he tried to flee the store and continued to fire upon the suspect, who was still armed.
The suspect managed to get away, but was caught a short time later when he was discovered nearby suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to Local15tv.com,
Deputies say Steele admitted he robbed the store out of desperation, because he lost his job a couple weeks ago.
Though the store owner is relieved the man he shot is going to survive, he isn’t buying that excuse.
He says he too was laid off a few years ago, but got back on his feet the honest way.
“I put all my life savings into this store. I borrowed money from the bank and my parents. It’s just been a bit over two years. That’s why we don’t have any employees. I work seven days a week and have two little girls I have to take care of,” said the owner.
The suspect will be charged with armed robbery following treatment for his injuries.
