It is believed that two men followed Herrera home from work around 3am and attempted to rob him as he entered his home.

Neighbors say they heard two gunshots. Those gunshots resulted in Herrera suffering from a non life threatening injury and one of the suspects dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

A second suspect, believed to have also played a role in the robbery attempt, has also been arrested by police and is being held on a $100,000 bond.

According to KHOU, neighbors are supportive over Herrera’s actions,

“All we heard is a couple gunshots, about five or six bullets,” Jimmy Benavides, a neighbor, said. Benavides said he does not blame Herrera for fighting back.

“If he didn’t have a gun on him he’d be dead right now most likely,” Benavides said. “Oh yes, anybody threatens my kids or my family, I’m gonna shoot ‘em point blank.”

Both suspects are described as males in their 20’s from a surrounding area.
