A concealed carry convenience store clerk used his firearm in self defense earlier this week when a would be armed robber entered his store, shoved a gun in his face and demanded money.

Kiran Giri, who got his carry permit about a year and a half ago, quickly drew his own gun and fired one shot, striking the suspect in the neck.

The victim described the incident and conditions in the neighborhood to Click2Houston,

“When I saw the gun I felt like I was going to die. For my safety I had to pull my trigger,” said store clerk Kiran Giri.

Giri is known in his southeast Houston neighborhood as Alex and said he’s worked at the Almeda Discount Food Store for 14 years. In that time, Giri said he’s seen crime getting worse

“Every day robbing, looting, store clerk got shot, got killed,” said Giri.

The suspect is being treated for his injuries at an area hospital and is expected to survive.

This is the 163rd defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Texas and the 1,273rd defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
