A Memphis, TN mother is lucky to be alive after she was attacked by her drunken boyfriend who was wielding a hammer and a wrench.

Fortunately, the woman’s adult son, who also lived in the home, was armed and was able to take control of the situation. According to WREG,

Police say Tony Hardin was in the middle of a heated argument with his live-in girlfriend and her adult son. They say a drunk Hardin ran after the two with a hammer and wrench, and threatened to kill them.

The mother and son escaped, and in the chaos, the son fired several shots at Hardin, who was hit in the back.

“He was laying out there in the yard, he had been to the door,” said [John Booker, a neighbor].

Hardin collapsed in the yard right next to Booker’s home.

The current medical status of Hardin is not known.

The homes over at least two neighbors were struck by rounds, fortunately, no one else was injured. Always know your target AND what’s beyond it. Remember, even in a legit self defense situation you’re still responsible for every round you fire.

This is the 40th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Tennessee and the 1,182nd defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
