A paraplegic man West Philadelphia, PA had to shoot and kill his brother after he attacked their sister. According to ABC 6,

The victim’s brother tells police 40-year-old John Mapp was physically abusive towards him and his 38-year-old sister.

The brother, 34, tells police Mapp was attacking his sister then came towards him.

That’s when, police say, the man’s paraplegic brother pulled out a handgun and shot his brother once in the chest.

Mapp was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. The brother who pulled the trigger was taken into custody for questioning, but is not facing any charges.

It’s unclear if the paraplegic brother was carrying the firearm on his person or if he retrieved it from somewhere in the home.

This story is a prime example of how a firearm can level the playing field for someone who is physically weaker than their assailant.

This is the 46th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Pennsylvania and the 1,231st defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
