A Michigan resident who was renting a house in Inkster returned home on Thursday evening to find a group burglarizing his home.

At some point during the altercation, one of the suspected burglars opened fire on the resident, striking him in the leg.

Fortunately, the resident was carrying a concealed handgun and was able to draw his firearm and return fire.

One of the suspects was struck during the exchange of gunfire and died of his injuries. The other suspects managed to escape.

The homeowner is in serious condition in an area hospital where he is being treated for a gunshot wound.

According to WXYZ,

Police say the suspect who was killed was 23 years old, and was with several others at the time.

According to the police chief, the other people who were with the suspect got away, and the department, along with other agencies are stepping up patrols and providing special attention to the corner where the robbery happened.
