stock_bigger_pistolCoalville, Iowa – A homeowner and a suspected home invader are both in an area hospital due to serious injuries this morning.

According to local media reports, a man knocked on the front door of a rural Iowa home just after 6am. When the resident answered the door, the suspect stabbed him in the neck and attempted to force his way into the home.

Fortunately, the homeowner was armed and opened fire on the suspect, striking him four times center of mass.

The suspect was still able to flee the home, get into his vehicle and drive several miles before crashing his car into a ditch.

Responding authorities transported both men to an area hospital where they remain in serious condition.

No names have been released in the incident as of yet. It is also not known what charges the suspect will face, but police say the homeowner clearly acted in self defense.

Police believe this was a random robbery attempt at this time.

This is only the 5th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Iowa and the 1,150th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
