A grandfather in Portland, Tennessee found himself in a scary situation. According to WKRN,
He told News 2 that earlier that morning he noticed items in his house were out of place, so he decided to carry his pistol around the property.
“Some wild man comes out of the weeds towards me at the house. He comes walking over toward me I could tell he was messed up,” said the homeowner.
“I don’t know really what to think and I don’t know really why he thought he had to talk to me but he had a pair of gloves of mine on. I pulled my gun out and put it to his forehead and told him to sit down and called 911 and I’m thinking I don’t want to shoot this guy.”
The homeowner held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.
The use of meth has been a problem in that area of Tennessee in recent years, although police haven’t said what, if any, substances the suspect may have been using at the time of his arrest.
This incident is the most common type of defensive gun use. That is, one in which no shots were fired and no one was hurt. Despite this being the most common type of defensive gun use, these incidents are often not included in statistics about defensive gun uses. Many of these statistics and studies focus solely on justifiable homicides, which represent only a fraction of total defensive gun uses.
