According to multiple media reports, two suspected car burglars had been involved in breaking into several cars in West Palm Beach, FL.

The pair apparently chose the wrong car during their crime spree. A homeowner in the area came outside and confronted the suspects.

According to one media report, a fight then broke out. During the altercation, the homeowner, who was armed, fired a gun at one of the suspects, who was struck and killed. He is identified as 31-year-old Aaron Francis Bayliss.

The second suspect fled the area following the altercation with the homeowner. He is still being sought by police.

Police will be turning the evidence of their investigation over to the district attorney to determine if any charges will be filed against the homeowner. Under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, residents are allowed to defend themselves in most situations, but cannot use deadly force in the defense of property.

The homeowner’s association where the incident took place will be having a meeting with city government representatives to discuss crime and violence in the area later this week.

This is the 107th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Florida and the 1,152nd defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
