A family returning from a wake in Houston, TX was probably already having a bad night, however it was about to get much worse.

Three of the four members of the family had enetered the home when the fourth was approached by a masked gunman who demanded money.

According to information a neighbor gave to ABC News, the victim called out loudly, likely trying to get help.

“In a very loud voice he was yelling back, don’t shoot me, don’t shoot me,” Vargas recalled.

Vargas tells us a retired federal agent was among those who had just returned home. Investigators say he pulled out a weapon and the suspect fired on him as he came back outside. He returned fire, hitting the suspect at least twice, according to authorities. The wounded suspect then fled in a waiting getaway car.

Police say a man matching the suspect’s description showed up at an area hospital suffering from gunshot wounds later that evening. He is being questioned by police.

Police think as many as three suspects may have been involved and they may have been responsible for other robberies in the area.

No arrests have been made yet.
