Crime doesn’t pay. It really doesn’t pay when the victim you chose turns out to be an armed, off duty law enforcement officer.

Such is the case with an incident in Houston, TX. Houston Police Department Officer J. Johnson was just leaving the movies with his girlfriend, when a sedan pulled up to them.

One of the the men produced a handgun and pointed it at the couple. Officer Johnson wasted no time and drew his concealed firearm. He fired several shots at the vehicle.

The vehicle was able to get away from the scene, however it turned up a short time later at an area hospital. Two of the three occupants of the car were treated for non life threatening gunshot wounds and the third person was taken into custody by police. All three suspects are charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

The officer and his girlfriend were not harmed during the incident.

According to KHOU, one bystander made some interesting statements,

“Its’ really a difficult situation, and it definitely raises the question about guns and how we’re handling this. I think we’re becoming a gun-crazy society,” said moviegoer Wanda.

Is she questioning the need and validity of carrying a firearm for self defense when a gun could have very well just saved two people’s lives?
