Koochiching County, Minnesota – A home invader who assaulted an elderly woman at her home is now dead. The suspect was killed by the woman’s son who was protecting her.

According to local media reports the sheriff’s office said the following about the incident,

The man knocked on the door and asked for help of some sort. Ethel Himes let the man in, and he started assaulting her.

Brad Himes stepped in and shot the man, who was taken to Rainy Lake Medical Center and died there.

The state Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

The 48 year old son who fired the shot said he was just doing what had to be done. Police say his actions were a clear cut case of self defense.

The mother was a little shaken up, but is physically fine. This story is yet another example of why you should never open your door to strangers.

This is only the 10th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Minnesota, but it is the 1,240th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
