A couple in Heath, OH woke up to their dog growling and barking at something in their home.

The husband sprang from bed, saw someone in the home with a flashlight and fired a shot at the intruder.

The shot missed and the bullet lodged in a door frame.

“I just thank God we have the right to bear arms to protect ourselves,” said the female homeowner.

Police say the homeowners acted within their rights to self defense.

The suspects were tracked by police K9s, but were not caught.

Defense tip: Dogs make great alarm systems, deterrents and great companions as well.
