A MO homeowner was woken up by his teenage daughter who heard sounds of someone trying to break into their home.

When the homeowner went to investigate, he opened the front door and a man entered the home.

A brief struggle ensued and ended when the homeowner fired a single shot from a handgun at the intruder.

The intruder fled the area and was found about a block away suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police say the man was intoxicated and it’s unclear if he was trying to burglarize the home or was just so intoxicated he didn’t know what he was doing.

The homeowner’s actions are protected under MO’s Castle Doctrine.

The suspected intruder is being treated at an area hospital and is expected to survive.
