According to local media reports, suspected intruder is dead in Long Beach, California after encountering an armed homeowner early Sunday morning.

Police say a man allegedly broke into a home in the Bluff Park neighborhood and was shot by the homeowner.

Responding paramedics declared the suspect dead at the scene.

The identity of the homeowner and the suspect are currently being withheld by police.

Of course, we’re talking about California here, so the local media outlet had to bring up the fact that the homeowner might be charged for exercising their right to self defense. From the Orange County Register,

[Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Megan Zabel] said it is too early to speculate on whether the resident would face charges.

“The case will be presented to the (district attorney’s) office upon conclusion of the investigation, who will determine if charges will be filed if any.” Zabel said.

This is the 60th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of California and the 1,258th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
