A resident of Fort Wayne, IN, had to use deadly force to defend himself from two armed men who tried to rob him outside of his residence yesterday.
According to the Journal Gazette, a man was standing outside of his home around 11pm when two men walked up and tried to rob him. The victim was apparently carrying a handgun himself, which he drew and used to fire on the suspects.
One of the suspects was hit multiple times and was declared dead at the scene. The other suspect managed to flee the area, but it is unclear if he was shot in the exchange of gunfire.
The victim was shot once in the foot during the firefight, but he is being treated at an area hospital and is doing fine.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are encouraging anyone with information, especially about the second suspect, to contact them.
According to the Journal Gazette, the second suspect meets the following description:
The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens to early 20s, 5-foot-6 with a medium build, last seen wearing a blue South Pole hooded jacket, black shorts, black socks and flip-flops.
A firearm was recovered beside the body of the deceased suspect. This is another case where the victim might not be alive today if it was not for his access to sufficient firepower to defend himself.
