A FL homeowner awoke to a man banging on his door to be let in. The homeowner, who is a military vet and current security guard, told the intruder to leave several times. When the intruder forced his way into the home, where the homeowner’s wife and two young children were, he opened fire on the intruder, striking him in the chest and killing him. Police say alcohol may have led to the intruder’s behavior. Police also state that this is a class ‘Castle Doctrine’ self defense case. In states that have a ‘Duty to Retreat’ the family would have had to try to run away from the intruder before using force to defend themselves. Interestingly this is the second intruder that the homeowner has shot. He shot and and wounded a burglar who was then caught by police at a prior residence.
