stock_P1020356Many times, the mere presence of a firearm is enough of a deterrent to end a violent crime. However, sometimes a defensive situation does deteriorate into an actual gunfight.

This is the situation a jewelry store owner in Antioch, CA found himself in last week.

Two armed men attempted to rob the Hardy Nix Jewelry store, but were met with resistance by an armed owner.

During a shootout with the suspects, one suspect was shot and killed and one female customer was shot and injured.

The second suspect escaped and is being sought by police.

The current condition of the wounded female customer is currently unknown.

If you happen to have information about this incident, you are encouraged to contact Detective Eric McManus at 925-779-6940.

This is the 53rd defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of California and the 1,099th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
