I am a firm believer in my right to bear arms, how does that cliche` go? They can take my gun away when they pry it from my cold dead fingers!

The picture next to the story is of a Ruger GP-100, a .357 Magnum revolver that started production in the mid-1980s. It would have been better to picture a S&W Model 10 revolver, also called the “Military & Police” revolver. It’s likely what the retired police officer used for self-defense.

Sixgun symphony is correct here. This elderly man being both a World War II vet and
retired cop would have been intimately familiar with the .38 Special. The other handgun
of choice for his generation would have been the venerable Colt Model 1911-A1 .45
    semi-automatic pistol.
