Stock Gun Photo - Semi AutoIn this case even a timely police response wasn’t enough to protect an elderly homeowner from a suspected burglar.

The homeowner called police when he heard noises in the middle of the night and feared someone was trying to break into his home.

Officers responded and did find a broken window, but were unable to locate a suspect, so they left.

Shortly thereafter, the homeowner, armed with a handgun, confronted an intruder who was hiding in a closet in a barbershop which was attached to the home. It is unclear what the homeowner’s relationship to the shop is.

The homeowner shot the suspect once, hitting him in the arm. The suspect was able to flee the scene, but police were still in the general area and heard the gunshot.

Officers were able to apprehend the suspect nearby.

He was treated at an area hospital for non life threatening injuries. The suspect is still undergoing treatment, but will face a burglary charge upon his release from the hospital.

The elderly homeowner will not face any charges.
