A 69 year old homeowner in SD was beaten with a blunt object in what appears to be a violent home invasion and armed robbery.

Fortunately the homeowner managed to get to his gun and shoot his 21 year old assailant. The would be home invader died at the scene.

Neighbors say this street has never hasn’t had any crime in years and is normally a nice, quiet place to live.

Local authorities are continuing their investigation. The homeowner is being treated for his wounds at an area hospital.

Unfortunately this seems to be an ever increasing trend across the country. Those that believe they can take advantage of the weak and the elderly believe they can keep praying upon them. Fortunately many have come to the realization they need the ability to be able to defend themselves from the harm that these evil people would do.

One less scumbag to worry about. Good riddance.

And because of the home owners actions, the area will be safe from this one guy forever!

And yet, a LOT of our political “leaders” want to outright take away an individula right to own a gun, and barring that, make it illegal for you to keep it “ready” for that 1 time you may need it. Hopefully the homeowner does not get charged with anything.

AJ, this is South Dakota we are talking about here… specifically Pennington County. Absolutely nothing will happen to Mr. Wilson the homeowner. Unlike many parts of the country where you are guilty until proven innocent – (charged with any number of crimes which are then dropped following an investigation)- Out here things are generally handled a bit differently.

Of the three instances of “self defense involving firearms in the home” that I have first hand knowledge of there are a few things that remain consistent.
One, no arrests were made or charges filed at the time of the incident.
    Two, no firearms were confiscated.
Three, The DA (in most cases) approaches the incident as self defense until given reason to believe otherwise.

While this may not be the case in every city or county, it certainly is true of the three incidents that I have personal knowledge of. Not all were in Rapid City either. One was in Rapid City, one was in Aberdeen, and one was in Sioux Falls. Three vastly different parts of the state with identical outcomes.

    Life is good out here…

    John
