As I’m sure you are aware, there was yet another mass shooting on Fort Hood in Texas yesterday.

Several of the most recent high profile mass shootings have taken place on and around military installations.

The military is often criticized for not allowing service members to carry firearms on base.

At least one high ranking military official, Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, General James Amos has called for arming at least some Marines while they are on duty.

Currently, with rare exceptions, only the Military Police carry firearms on military bases. However, just like in the civilian world, they cannot be everywhere at once and an armed response to a violent threat takes time.

We want to know what you think. Hit the poll below to vote.

Be sure to elaborate in the comments. If you vote “Yes”, do you think service members should be issued firearms while working on bases, or should it be more like civilian carry where you have an option to carry your own personal weapon in a manner of your choosing?

If you’re active or prior service feel free to drop your opinions below as someone who has been there.
