OK, so I’ve the last 20 minutes doing something I never thought I’d need to do in order to write an article for this website – research The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. You’re welcome. I guess. Maybe you don’t care, and rightly so, but anytime there is someone in the public eye talking guns we have to take notice.

Joyce Giraud de Ohoven is one of the housewives on this season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills…apparently.

According to a blog post on BravoTV.com, Joyce and her husband were the target of an armed home invasion. Allegedly, two men in ski masks and armed with shotguns tried to gain entry into their Beverly Hills home.

Joyce, who prior to the incident, was against having a gun in the home, acknowledges that their trained attack dog is the only thing that deterred the suspected home invaders. After that, she and her husband decided it was time to get some real protection for their home.

They purchased a gun and went to the shooting range. Part of the shooting range segment is shown in the above video.

While I am glad to see celebrities taking responsibility for their own personal safety, I would have liked for the range session to have been taken a little more seriously for two reasons. One, safety, obviously. The instructor has to address Joyce’s muzzle control more than once in the short clip. Two, in a real life and death situation, you will only be as good as your training (actually you will almost certainly be worse than your training). So, if you train poorly, you will react poorly.

All in all I am very glad that the tide in Hollywood might be changing just a tiny little bit in regards to guns and personal protection. However, I would like to see those who choose to own a gun for personal protection take the training a bit more seriously. At least they did go to an actual instructor and didn’t try it on their own. Nice looking S&W though…
