Assume for some random reason you were only allowed to possess 1 handgun and 1 long gun. What would they be? Let's assume all other ownership laws are the same as they are now.

    Glock 17
    Mossberg 590

I thought about going with AK for the long gun, but I had to give it to a shotgun for the versatility. I think it would be hard to shoot birds or clays with an AK if you ever decided you wanted/needed to.

True, but I'm nowhere near as proficient with a shotgun as I am with a rifle/carbine

I'd have to go with a Glock 17 and an 870 12 gauge.

Only one of each? Then I need to cover hunting, home defense, and CCW. That means a defensive handgun and a hunting rifle. Based on my current collection, that would be a LCR 357 and a Remington Woodsmaster 308. Although if I'm feeding my family, a shotgun or 22 rifle might get consideration due to greater versatility. Can't hunt squirrels and rabbits with a 308!
