What's even more appalling is how many of my Catholic brethren, including clergy who should know better, seem to be in favor of gun control, in direct violation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church which states that we the faithful have a moral right to use force as a last resort to defend ourselves, even lethal force should lethal force be necessary to neutralize the threat to your person or property. I was arguing with a deacon in my diocese recently on this issue who'd written an article in the WNY Catholic seemingly favoring gun control and of course people like him focus on "turn the other cheek" forgetting that Christ also said "let he who hath no sword sell his mantle and buy one" and he implied that when the apostles did as He asked and showed him the swords they bought that His "it is enough" was meant to convey that they were supposed to just chuck them and not use them. I don't know about you but I don't think Christ was in the business of wasting money. I think my brethren are beginning to forget the Catholic Church's history of opposing tyranny.
