Bad gun advice is, for some reason, a rampant plague.

What's the worst gun advice, tip, or "fact" you've ever heard?

Worst thing I've heard.....don't worry I've got a gun at home but I don't keep it loaded...the gun is locked in my safe and the ammo is in the garage....but it's there if I ever need it....yep that'll help you...

"If it doesn't have a thumb safety, there shouldn't be one in the pipe."

A friend of mine shot and killed his wife on accident...he blamed on a new taurus 357 revolver. I remember him saying "Never buy a Taurus revolver, the cylinder rotates backwards."

I'm trying really hard, but for the life of me I can't at the moment recall any really bad or stupid advice... maybe I've just grown used to blanking out stupid stuff when it's getting blathered... comes from 31+ years of marriage... uh... oh boy... did I just type that!?  :sly:

"Get the XD, it has the grip safety. And trigger safety. Those together make it impossible for a small child to shoot it."

Went home, cleared gun (double, triple, quadruple checked that it was clear). Handed it to my 2yo and asked him to point it at the floor and try to pull the trigger.

    Click.

The idiot dead-giveaway was the part about "...those together make it impossible for a small child to shoot it...." That fool has obviously never raised children. I would put nothing past the ingenuity and obsession of a small kid.

Totally aside from that, how did your two-year old manage to do it? One hand on the grip safety and the other hand's finger pulling the trigger? Or has your child got unusually large hands for his age?

"use a pump shot gun. The sound of you pumping it will make them split!"

"never buy a taurus" (have 3. Never an issue)

    "kel-tecs are crap" (see above)

And the WORST ever (that i have NEVER listenes to, and thank God!) is "Don't worry, i checked, it is not loaded"

Here's a short link to some of the story...the last few lines. My friend (now dead) claimed the pistol was "hanging" up and he was trying to solve and issue with the pistol. He said he dropped one round in and thumbed the hammer back and it "slipped" and went off.

He had both of his thumbs on the grip safety, both index.fingers on the trigger. My 4yo at the time.could do it one handed, as he has unusually long fingers.

Whenever I troubleshoot firearms malfunctions, I always point them at my wife?

"Just get a shotgun, then you only have to point it in their general direction!"

Apparently shotguns produce a solid wall of death.

"Keeping a round in the chamber is just stupid. You're going to end up killing someone."

    That's the idea....

"I like the Glock because i can carry without one in the chamber, but if I pull the trigger it will load one into the chamber and fire."

    This ignornace was swiftly corrected.

"It's legal to open carry in Georgia without a licence"

It's not. (This came from a police officer)

"Open carry is illegal in Georgia"

    It's not.
