Willie White, age 75, was watching a basketball game at 1:15 in the morning when he heard a loud “thumping” on his door. Immediately alerted to the likelihood of a break-in (someone had broken his window the day before), Mr. White picked up his loaded SKS rifle just as a burglar broke through his locked front door. In fear for both his own life and that of his stroke-incapacitated wife, White shot the man, sending him careening back out into the driveway, where he later died. The man’s two accomplices fled the scene. Said White, “I was nervous — I figured if someone’s hostile enough to break your door down, he’s capable of anything. So once he came inside my house, I shot him.”

Shocking that Mr. White is still awaiting word from prosecutor's whether he will be charged.
