Since the story was shared again today on Facebook, I figured it would be appropriate to post it here as well. I've shared my account numerous times by now, mostly to help show that normal people can and do defend themselves effectively.

In short, I had two men try to rob me at knife point when I was picking up some groceries in December of 2010. There was a struggle during with I was able to get the knife away long enough to draw my revolver and fire it in self defense, fatally wounding the one with the knife while the other escaped.

Well done... Excellent thinking and action while under some serious stress. These are the kinds of stories I like to see.. no good-guys seriously hurt. It is obvious to me that you had been mentally preparing yourself for some time. It is one thing to be armed, but another matter altogether to be truly PREPARED to meet a threat. I commend you for exercising your God-given right to defend yourself from scumbags - and would like to add that you also managed to likely save someone else's life down the road - those dumb@ss POS's would likely have killed someone.

I've used this very story to support carrying in public (OC, CC, whatever) as opposed to keeping arms for home defense only. It was in the comment section on the Canton Repository in the aftermath of the Daniel Harless / William Bartlett saga last year. Some people just can't accept that the "bear" in "right to keep and bear arms" is not a big furry mammal.

Thank you for sharing. If you don't mind answering, in hindsight, what do you wish (if anything) you would've done differently, either before, during or after the incident?

Probably the only things I wish I could have done differently was get a better look at the second guy, and gotten in touch with a lawyer before I gave a statement to the police, fortunately it was a clear case of self defense and no charges were brought against me
