Some anti-gun Twitter users have been mistakenly tweeting that one of the good points of the shutdown is that people won’t be able to buy guns. Sorry anti-gunners, that’s just not the case.

According to the following news alert from the NRA-ILA you can still buy guns during the government shutdown, much to the chagrin of anti-gunners.

NRA-ILA has received a number of questions on the status of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in the case of a government shutdown.

Law enforcement activities are designated as essential services and do not shut down even if the Congress and President fail to agree on funding legislation.

The NICS system will continue to operate.

NRA-ILA will keep watch on NICS operations if there is a shutdown to alert our members if there is any impact, such as a slowdown in response times.

This year has been an almost certainly record breaking year for gun sales and those sales will continue despite a government shutdown.

While you may not be able to visit a national park during the shutdown, you can still head down to your local gun shop!
